Travelling round Europe? Be sure to check out these sporting spectacles!

Nowadays, travelling across the continent is becoming more and more popular. Many students choose to take a year out from their studies and visit some of the finest cities in Europe, whilst others move to the continent for work purposes.

Travelling remains incredibly popular and in 2016, there are plenty of colossal sporting events across Europe that will grab plenty of attention throughout the year – here are just a few of the main competitions that you should consider visiting if you’re in the local area.

The Cheltenham Festival

In March, avid racegoers from all over the world will travel to Cheltenham to bear witness to the first major horse racing festival of the calendar year. In recent times, the Cheltenham Festival has matured into one of Great Britain’s finest meetings and there are plenty of quality horses on show throughout the four-day event.

If you love betting on horse racing, or simply enjoy watching prime thoroughbreds compete against one another, Cheltenham is the place for you. Punters can check out the latest horse racing odds on the festival at Coral’s website and there’s currently a new favourite runner for the Cheltenham Gold Cup – which is perhaps the biggest race of the week. You simply can’t afford to miss it!

Euro 2016

Other than the Olympic Games, the European Championship is probably the most anticipated sports event of the year. In June, 24 teams will travel to France and compete for silverware. At the time of writing, Coral are pricing England at 10/1 to go all the way and win the competition this year – something they have never managed to do.

If you’re planning on travelling to and around France this summer, why not catch one of the many games on show. There will be matches almost every day throughout June and who knows, you may be able to get a late ticket to the final of the competition on July 10th.

The Belgian Grand Prix

If you’re a Formula One fan, the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa is the one for you. This is widely regarded as one of the most thrilling circuits on the racing calendar and fans have been treated to a number of close battles in recent times – none more so than Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton’s famous, controversial clash in 2014.

With a number of different packages and options available, it’s one of the more accommodating Grand Prix events and families are more than welcome to attend the event. With great transport links in and around the area, you can travel to Belgium’s finest and most famous cities if you get a few days either side of Sunday’s race day.
