The sheer number of places and options can be overwhelming: You can bask in the sun on a private beach, explore some of the most beautiful cities in the world or connect with nature on a luxurious African Safari. Its ravishing beauty and startling contrasts makes it the perfect place for kids to play and learn, while the adults bask in all the sights, sounds and tastes Africa has to offer. An African family vacation can take numerous forms, below are some of our favorite places to immerse you and your family in the cradle of humankind.

Kenya

Kenya is an excellent choice for a family vacation and a great introduction if it is your first time on safari. The country offers a wide range of activities you can choose from, fantastic family friendly accommodation and amazing game viewing. Spend the day with Maasai guides as they regale you with stories and teach the children how to track animals, and you can even meet a few baby elephants. Lets not forget the beautiful beaches littering Kenya’s Indian Coast. If you have the time, you can combine all of these parts into one fantastic trip.

South Africa

South Africa is a great destination for multi generational families on vacation. Its modern infrastructure, accommodation and diverse range of attractions make it quite easy to tailor a holiday to the varying activity levels of your family. It’s also an excellent place to combine the heart stopping excitement of a wilderness safari with the glorious relaxation of a beach holiday. Riding safaris are a memorable and wonderfully unique way of experiencing an African safari. These safaris cater both to novice and experienced riders. South Africa has a diverse variety of riding experiences: Ride with game, muster cattle, play polo cross, go cross country jumping, swim with horses or ride on long, beautiful stretches of deserted beaches. Not to mention the numerous wine farms, small towns and beautiful cities that you can explore.

Zimbabwe

This is an excellent option for families with restless teenagers: You can head to Victoria Falls for some white water rafting, bungee jumping, gorge swinging and river boarding. Of course, you can combine all of this with a canoe safari along the Zambezi: It is a three-night trip, where you move to a different riverside camp everyday and see some incredible game along the way. Keep in mind that children must be over 16yrs.

Mozambique

Mozambique is famous for its incredible beaches. There is a private retreat located on the white sand shores of the San Sebastian Peninsula called Pambele. Situated in Southern Mozambique, the Pambele Resort is perfect for families who crave their own private getaway. It truly feels like a deserted island. It is the perfect haven for your kids to run around since there aren’t any other lodges or hotels nearby. There are loads of aquatic activities like kayaking, diving, sailing shows and snorkeling trips, which are all family friendly. There is also a small nature reserve for horse riding, nature walks, game drives and turtle nesting expeditions. It’s the ideal place to relax and explore.

Family holidays in Africa are thrilling and allow you to bond on an entirely new level. Of course, this is but a taste of what this huge continent has to offer so take the time to see what family options are out there, you will be pleasantly surprised.
