The Rocco Forte style has finally come of age in the Villa Kennedy luxury hotel. Perhaps it is the canvas they have had to work on. Despite rigorous planning, hoops that had to be jumped through, the building is magnificent. It is the former Max Planck Institute for Biophysics in Frankfurt, with elegant grounds, well proportioned rooms and, above all, space. Where the de Russie in Rome has an array of awkward shaped rooms to deal with, and the Savoy in Florence is hemmed in on all sides by the weight of Frankfurt's history, the Villa Kennedy has plenty of room to breath, and the Rocco Forte team has done a great job.
The facilities
Arriving by taxi you feel rather as if you have arrived at a teutonic hunting lodge, with mock gothic features preserved in the reception area and initial public rooms. But down some steps of this luxury hotel is the restaurant and spacious bar, and beneath that a state of the art spa and large pool.
The rooms
The Villa Kennedy is now the premier luxury hotel for discerning business people in Frankfurt, offering both luxurious but compact regular double rooms as well as enormous suites with sweeping views of the city. Other than the service, which is tip-top as they say in these parts, it's the attention to detail, such as the lighting, that sets this place apart.
I know that Frankfurt is not much of a leisure destination - but to be frank, if you can get a decent weekend package out of them, or sometime in off-business season like Christmas or New Year, then the Villa Kennedy is worth considering for a luxurious bolthole, cheap to fly to and with no need to leave for the entire stay.
